SCC Global Perspectives Report Showcases How Standardization Advances Business

Business Standardization

Businesses seeking ways to help eliminate trade barriers, spur innovation and advance their strategic objectives will want to read the Standards Council of Canada’s (SCC’s) new report, Lessons from the European Union, the United States and Australia.

The 17-page report highlights SCC’s two-day strategic exchange in April 2014, with its U.S., European and Australian counterparts. Global Perspectives brings together the views of several distinguished leaders of the international standards community, on how standardization supports regional and international trade. Other themes include standards development models, red tape reduction, harmonizing standards, and supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises.

As the report outlines, Canadian industry leaders attending the strategic meetings were led through panel discussions on setting standardization priorities. The panel featured John Walter, SCC’s Chief Executive Officer and Vice-President (Policy) for the International Organization of Standardization, and Walter’s counterparts from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), ANEC — representing the European consumer interest in the creation of technical standards, and Standards Australia.

Through Global Perspectives, readers will gain insight into, and a global perspective on, different standardization business models – and the value of international standardization systems – in advancing government and industry strategic objectives.
