Quebec’s Electric Circuit: 800 Charging Stations By Year’s End

Number of charging stations Quebec commissions every year

The Electric Circuit, Quebec’s largest public charging network for electric vehicles, now offers over 615 charging stations in more than 140 municipalities across 16 regions. Almost 200 more are expected by the end of 2016.

Launched in March 2012, the network has come a long way. It started with 4 founding partners and some 30 charging stations, and has since expanded to include over 130 partners that now offer over 615 charging stations in more than 140 municipalities across 16 regions.

The Electric Circuit intends to continue its expansion in the months to come, chiefly by stepping up the installation of fast-charge stations. By the end of 2016, the Electric Circuit’s objective is to offer 800 charging stations, including as many as 60 fast-charge stations on main highways and in major urban centres.

Since the network was launched, some 87,000 charges have been done at Electric Circuit charging stations, and that number keeps growing every month. There are nearly 8,600 electric vehicles on Quebec roads and over 83% of electric vehicle owners have an Electric Circuit card, which translates into over 7,000 members.

“We are extremely proud of what’s been accomplished so far thanks to the support of the Electric Circuit’s partners, who believe in transportation electrification and invest in the network of charging stations,” says France Lampron, Director — Transportation Electrification at Hydro-Québec, on behalf of the Electric Circuit’s partners. “The growing popularity of Electric Circuit charging stations among owners of plug-in electric vehicles encourages us to proceed with the network’s rollout and continue to meet their needs.”
