Manitoba Hydro Promoting Super Efficient LEDs

Manitoba LED's

Until April 12, Manitobans who purchase select Energy Star-certified LEDs from 11 participating retailers will save 50% off the purchase price. The utility is promoting the LEDs under the Power Smart banner.

The campaign builds on a rebate program launched in the fall that had five retailers participating. About 48,000 households purchased LEDs at that time, saving customers an estimated $550,000 a year on their energy bills.

“It was difficult for retailers to keep up with the demand,” says Colleen Kuruluk, Marketing Programs Manager for Manitoba Hydro. “We know some customers didn’t have an opportunity to participate in the fall. We are launching our spring campaign with more retailer participation and a wider selection of LED bulbs available for discount.

“Our goal is to help residential customers become more energy efficient and save money on their energy bill. LEDs are the most energy efficient lighting technology available, using 80% less energy than typical incandescent lights.”

By 2016, anticipated energy savings of the Power Smart Residential Lighting Program will be equivalent to the energy used by 70,000 60W incandescent bulbs. For more information about LED bulbs and Manitoba Hydro’s rebate program, visit www.hydro.mb.ca/your_home/lighting
