“John Engel exemplifies all of the characteristics necessary for successful leadership, and having such a knowledgeable and highly visible advocate has played a major role in ESFI’s success,” says ESFI President Brett Brenner. “Mr. Engel’s commitment to electrical safety has been unparalleled, and we are honoured to have him serve on ESFI’s Board of Directors.”

The Outstanding Service Award was formally established in 2008 as a tribute to industry innovator and ESFI founding member Harold Leviton’s legacy and dedication to improving electrical safety. The award honours an individual who has gone above and beyond to expand ESFI’s interests through steadfast involvement and effective leadership.

Engel currently serves as the Chairman, President and CEO of WESCO International. During his seven years of service on ESFI’s board, Engel has been instrumental in guiding the organization on its path to establish itself as the premier organization addressing electrical safety in the home, school, and workplace. While serving on the Executive Committee as Vice Chairman, Mr. Engel helped ESFI to establish clear strategic goals while providing the framework that has allowed ESFI to expand its reach and influence.

WESCO employs 9,200 people with over $7.9 billion in annualized sales through Q3 2014. Prior to joining WESCO, Engel served in leadership capacities at Gateway, Perkin Elmer, AlliedSignal, and General Electric.
