Last year, Electro-Federation Canada published a research study on low-voltage DC (LVDC) power and the implications and opportunities this technology will have on the electrical market. Recently, EFC learned that the Canadian government has a vested interest in promoting LVDC power to remote communities, the new Canadian Electrical Code is in effect and now includes updates for LVDC installation and use, and CSA is forming a new technical committee for LVDC.

To respond to these and other market dynamics, and to support members who are currently exploring and/or are actively involved in LVDC opportunities, EFC is forming an LVDC Steering Committee/Product Section this spring.

New technology has traditionally been a slow starter in the electrical industry. Issues such as standards, certification, inspection, installation, staffing, training and customer expectations can lengthen any new initiative. This new steering committee will comprise EFC manufacturers, distributors and reps who have a vested interest in LVDC technology. This group will focus on key roadblocks facing the new technology, including technical and interoperability concerns, codes and standards, marketing promotion, and education.

If you, or someone from your organization, would like to participate in this committee, please contact Rick McCarten at rmccarten@elelctrofed.com, 905-706-3703.
