Northern Cables Purchases Brockville Industrial Lands for New Production Facility

September 26, 2024

Northern Cables, a Brockville-based manufacturer, is expanding its operations with plans to build a new production facility that will create approximately 50 new jobs. The company has purchased about 18 acres of land from the city of Brockville on Crocker Crescent for this expansion.

Key Details of the Expansion

  • Land Purchase: Northern Cables bought two parcels of land totaling approximately 18 acres for $895,500 ($50,000 per acre).
  • Facility Plans: The company has committed to constructing a minimum 100,000-square-foot facility within the next five years.
  • Job Creation: The expansion is expected to create around 50 new jobs once the facility is completed.
  • Unique Production: This new facility will be the only Canadian-owned site in the country manufacturing medium voltage power cables.

Economic Impact and Timeline

The expansion represents a significant investment in Brockville’s industrial sector. Mayor Matt Wren described it as “a tremendously good news story for the community, for our industrial park and our employment lands”.

While the company has up to five years to complete the project, the actual timeline may vary.

Northern Cables needs to bring in equipment from overseas, which could affect the construction schedule.

The company is known for being “methodical” in its approach, according to CEO Shelley Bacon.

Product Focus

The new facility will focus on producing medium voltage cables, which are primarily used for industrial applications, particularly in the mining sector. This move into medium voltage cables represents Northern Cables entering a niche market at the encouragement of their clients.

Northern Cables continues to demonstrate growth and innovation in the cable manufacturing industry, with this expansion further solidifying its position as a major employer in the Brockville area.
